Court dismisses CHANGALA’s application to subpoena HH, VEEP

The Lusaka Magistrates Court has thrown out an application by Governance and Human Rights Activist BRENNER CHANGALA to subpoena President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO and other dignitaries to testify in the matter where he is charged with Seditious practices.
LUSAKA Chief Resident Magistrate DAVIES CHIBWILI ruled that Mr. CHANGALA has not produced evidence that his proposed witnesses might have to support his case.
Magistrate CHIBWILI has cited Section 143 of the Constitution as the basis of his ruling.
He has incidentally ordered Mr. CHANGALA to open defence in the matter.
Mr. CHANGALA was put on defence on September 10, 2024.
In this matter Mr. CHANGALA is charged with one count of seditious practices Contrary to Section 57 subsection one of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
