The LUSAKA Magistrates Court has heard that former Foreign Affairs Minister JOSEPH MALANJI allegedly imported his two helicopters deemed to be proceeds of crime through his companies Gibson Power System and Royal Gibson Hotel.
Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- Director-Anti-money Laundering and Investigations Unit KWALEYELA MUKELABAI has however said that the helicopters are not registered in Mr. MALANJI’s name.
Mr. MUKELABAI testified on Thursday October 17, 2024, that Mr. MALANJI’s BELL 430 is still registered in the name of National Airways Corporation of South Africa.
He further testified that transactions for the payment of the two helicopters Bell 430 and Jet Rangers 206 were performed between Mr. MALANJI’s Royal Gibson Hotel and National Airways Corporation of South Africa.
Mr. MUKELABAI tendered the testimony before LUSAKA Principal Resident Magistrate IRENE WISHIMANGA during cross examination by defence lawyer MAKEBI ZULU.
This is in a matter where Mr. MALANJI is charged with possession of properties deemed to be proceeds of crime.
Mr. MALANJI is jointly charged with former Secretary to the Treasury FREDSON YAMBA.
Mr. YAMBA allegedly willfully failed to follow law and procedure when he authorized the transfer of over k108 million to the Zambia Mission in Turkey for the purchase of real estate.
