President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the government will support traditional leaders in creating Chiefdom Trusts as a model to attract investment into their chiefdoms.
President HICHILEMA says chiefdoms need a more organized approach to engage with Government and companies, as they advocate for development and initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of their people.
Speaking when he met five Chiefs from Southern Province in Mazabuka District on the sidelines of Zambia Sugar’s 60th Anniversary celebration and the launch of an expanded outgrower scheme, President HICHILEMA urged companies to give back to the communities
Speaking on behalf of the five chiefs, Chief NALUBAMBA said the establishment of Chief Trusts would significantly help chiefdoms engage more effectively with companies and the Government.
Chief NALUBAMBA also thanked the Government for providing farming inputs to most traditional leaders in the province, noting that this support will enable chiefs to grow food and contribute to the country’s food security.
And Chief NALUBAMBA requested President HICHILEMA to extend the agriculture mechanization initiative to traditional leaders, as it is important in managing drought conditions.
