Mweetwa salutes freedom fighters

Information and Media Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA officiated at the independence celebrations in Livingstone, Southern province.
Mr. MWEETWA said freedom fighters made great and unconditional sacrifices to emancipate the country from colonial rule.
He said it is important for Zambians to continue upholding and embracing the spirit of selflessness, sacrifice, exceptional courage and nationalism.
Speaking at the same event, Southern Province Minister CREDO NANJUWA says his office will work with freedom fighters to ensure the history of the struggle for independence is well documented and understood by the younger generation.
And Zambia United Freedom Fighters Association Provincial Chairperson ERNEST MWAANGA has applauded the government for its achievements since taking office.
And from Western province, Energy Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE encouraged the people to embrace unity in order to promote development in the region.
Mr. CHIKOTE was speaking in Mongu District today when he graced this year’s independence celebration.
Meanwhile, Earlier Mongu District Commissioner MORGAN AKABESWA has urged the people of Western Province to embrace peace and unity.
Speaking on behalf of other freedom fighters, GEORGE MATE said freedom fighters brought about Independence and peace that is being enjoyed today and has since asked the people of Western Province to be patriotic and promote peace.
Mr. MATE urged the people of Zambia to avoid politics that can plunge the country into civil war.
