Zambia Elected Vice-Chair of Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group

Zambia has been elected as Vice-Chair of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group -CMAG.
The role which focuses on upholding Commonwealth values was secured during the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting –CHOGM- held in Samoa.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE will now lead efforts to monitor and respond to breaches of democratic principles within the Commonwealth.
As Vice-Chair, Zambia will work closely with Samoa, the current Commonwealth Chair, and other member countries including Barbados, Canada, and Ghana, to combat threats to democracy.
Commenting on the election, Commonwealth Secretary-General PATRICIA SCOTLAND congratulated Mr. HAIMBE stating that leadership role for Zambia, will reinforce its commitment to a peaceful and democratic Commonwealth.
She emphasized CMAG’s crucial role in tackling challenges that threaten democracy and civil liberties.
And Mr. HAIMBE said Zambia is ready to collaborate with its Commonwealth partners to protect the values the parties hold dear.
CMAG, established in 1995, is dedicated to ensuring respect for human rights and constitutional governance among its 56 member nations.
