Police arrest 2 headmen found with stolen fertilizer
Police In Livingstone have apprehended two village headmen found in possession of 73 bags of suspected stolen government fertilizer.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer AUXENSIO DAKA has told ZNBC News that DIVERS LIKUNYI and ENOCK NEENE both aged 56 from Kazungula District were found in possession of 38 50 kilogram bags of D Compound and 35 50 kilogram bags
of Urea Fertilizer.
Mr. DAKA says it is alleged that officers from the department of Community Development and Social Services sold the duo the bags of fertilizer which were meant for distribution to vulnerable beneficiary farmers.
He says Police officers managed to retrieve the beneficiary register from the Community Development and Social Sciences department which indicated that 57 beneficiary farmers signed into the register as having collected two bags of fertilizer each when in fact not.
The seventy three bags of fertilizer have since been recovered by police and an additional four people have been detained to help with investigations….
