President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called for the swift and comprehensive implementation of projects agreed with China.
President HICHILEMA says timely and excellent project delivery will position Zambia as a valuable partner in Zambia-China relations.
He says both Zambia and China have a responsibility to play their part in passing the baton of cooperation in the ongoing development relay between the two countries, which began on October 29, 1964, just five days after Zambia gained its independence.
Speaking during the 60th anniversary of Zambia-China bilateral relations, at the TAZARA Memorial Park in Chongwe, President HICHILEMA said one significant achievement between the two countries is the agreement to revamp TAZARA, aimed at modernizing the railway system to support economic growth.
President HICHILEMA also thanked Tanzania for its cooperation, which has contributed to the successful TAZARA redevelopment deal.
At the same event, acting Tourism Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA requested China to consider introducing direct flights to Zambia to reduce business costs and boost tourism between the two nations.
And Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, HAN JING, paid tribute to everyone who has worked tirelessly to strengthen China-Zambia relations over the past 60 years, describing it as an excellent example of Chinese partnerships in Africa.
Also speaking at the event, Lusaka Province Minister SHEAL MULYATA said Zambia values its partnership with China in areas such as infrastructure development and agriculture among others.
