By Chembe Mbale
The Luanshya Magistrate Court has sentenced former Kabushi PF Member of Parliament BOWMAN LUSAMBO to two years imprisonment with hard labor.
Luanshya Magistrate, PENISTONE CHILUBA delivered the judgment this morning.
The sentencing follows an incident on April 11, 2019, when Mr. LUSAMBO attacked National Democratic Congress -NDC- Member STANLEY MUSUKWA 58, with a machete.
A medical report confirmed that the injuries were consistent with those inflicted by a sharp weapon.
According to court records, Mr. LUSAMBO faced additional assault charges involving a second complainant, NDC member MARY MUSONDA.
However, Magistrate CHILUBA acquitted him due to insufficient evidence presented by prosecutor MORGAN SHATEMBO.
Last Friday, a bench warrant was issued against Mr. LUSAMBO by the Luanshya Magistrate Court following his conviction in absentia for unlawful wounding.
Mr. LUSAMBO has since applied for a bail pending appeal against his sentencing and hearing will be done at 14:30 hours today.
