Govt gives local authorities K2.6m for devolved functions
By Paul Shalala
Local authorities performing devolved functions have started receiving 2.6 million Kwacha each to support the implementation of functions on behalf of the Central Government.
The implementation is being supported through the World Bank funded Zambia Devolution Support Programme which is aimed at strengthening the financing, institutional performance and accountability of local authorities.
Secretary to the Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA says the implementation of the eight devolved functions to local authorities is going on well countrywide.
Speaking when he opened the 2024 Decentralisation Policy Implementation Committee Meeting in Lusaka , Mr. KANGWA disclosed that five more functions will be devolved from Central Government to Local Authorities in 2025.
He named the five functions as Agriculture Services, Livestock and Fisheries, Community Development and Social Services.
