Muchima advises AU states on disease preparedness

Health Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA has urged African Union member states to strengthen the continent’s emergency preparedness and response systems.
Dr. MUCHIMA says this should be done to better protect the health and wellbeing of people in Africa.
He was speaking during the 13th Governing Board meeting of the Africa centers for disease control and prevention -Africa CDC in Ethiopia.
Dr MUCHIMA said it is important for the continent to strengthen its health infrastructure and readiness to respond to health emergencies.
He also urged Member States to learn from past health crises such as Ebola and Covid-19 pandemics, adding that they should not wait for another outbreak before taking action.
Dr. MUCHIMA commended Africa CDC for the timely declaration of Mpox as a public health emergency, adding that it was a critical step that helped save lives.
