Mopani Copper Mine starts exploration around Mufulira Mine

Mopani Copper Mines has started explorations around Mufulira Mine to extend the life span of the mine to 30 years.
Mopani Copper Mine Chief Executive Officer CHARLES SAKANYA says the current life span of the mine will end in 2034 and the mining giant is eager to extend the mine’s life.
Mr. SAKANYA says the explorations are expected to show the mineral potential the surrounding area has in order to extend the mine’s life span.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting with Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE in Kitwe this morning, Mr. SAKANYA disclosed that Mopani Copper Mines wants to ramp up production and reach a peak of 220,000 metric tonnes of copper per year.
He said in the next two years, the Mine is working on many projects to increase Copper production
Mr. SAKANYA wants Mopani Copper Mines to contribute 10 percent of the three million tonnes of copper targeted by the government.
And Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is passionate about value addition in the mining sector.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said Mopani Copper Mines must invest more in adding value to its products.
