Germany gives Zambia K10m for Green Innovation Center
(NAIS) The German government has given Zambia 10 million Kwacha additional funds for the Green Innovation Center.
The German government in 2014 commissioned the Green Innovation Centre project worth 28 million Euros, as part of the special initiative to end hunger and malnutrition.
Head of delegation at the German Embassy BERNHARD TRAUTNER his government has made available 350,000 Euros equivalent to 10,141,000 Kwacha, to combat the effects of drought.
Dr. TRAUTNER says the support includes drilling boreholes, installation of irrigation kits for fodder production in southern province, setting up of winter crop production in Eastern province and training farmers on growing drought resistant crops.
This is in addition to conducting certification of seed growers in order for farmers to face the future with resilience.
He said this in Lusaka during the 10th anniversary of the Green Innovation Centre, a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Development, aimed at transformation of agriculture and food systems in Zambia.
Meanwhile, Director for agriculture in the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. CHIZUMBA SHEPANDE said the government appreciates the accomplishments attained by the project through several interventions and innovations.
Dr. SHEPANDE has since assured the German government of sustaining the project, beyond its lifespan.
