Elephant Kills Chipangali man

One person has been killed by an elephant in Mazi-atuwa ward in Chipangali District in Eastern Province today.
Another person from Chief Mafuta’s area is admitted to Chipata Central hospital nursing wounds after an elephant attack yesterday.
The elephants are said to have strayed from Kasungu National Park in Malawi.
Chipangali Council Chairperson MAXSON NKHOMA says today’s incident occurred in Kadiula area of Chief Chinunda’s area.
Mr NKHOMA says officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife moved to the area yesterday after they were alerted about the presence of the wild animals.
And a relative of the deceased Reverend JONATHAN BANDA says his father in-law was trampled by the elephant as he was trying to flee from his premises.
Rev BANDA says the deceased was targeted by one elephant which had a calf.
And Chief Chanje of Chipangali District has appealed to the government to find a lasting solution to the problem of human-animal conflict.
