Kapala : We need to conserve our fish resources

NAIS- Fisheries and Livestock Minister, PETER KAPALA says there is a need to prioritise the conservation of fish resources in order to increase the aquaculture sector’s contribution to the  economy.

Mr. KAPALA has further observed that there has been over exploitation of fisheries resources which has resulted in a decline of fish stock and extinction of fish species.

He said this in Kafue district during the commemoration of World Fisheries Day, whose 2024 theme is “SAVE FISH EAT FISH”.

And the Food and Agriculture Organisation has reiterated its commitment to support the Zambian government in its global actions of sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture.

Organisation Country Representative, SUZE PERCY-FILIPPINI said Zambia has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development by placing a premium on developing the fisheries sector.

And speaking earlier, GIZ Sustainable Partnerships Advisor, BUPE MASEBE-MALAYA commended government for setting up the Zambia Forum for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture.
