President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says there is a need to amend the constitution to allow more women into representative offices.
President HICHILEMA says amending the Constitution to include affirmative action clauses will help promote greater representation of women, youths and persons with disabilities.
The President said this when he launched the commemoration of 16 days of activism against GBV at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
And the President said the Government will allocate more resources to the fight against GBV in a quest to address the vice.
President HICHILEMA said Gender Based Violence -GBV- is a serious crime and that the Police should clamp down on all forms of criminality in the country.
And Secretary to the Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA said that the Public Service remains committed to implementing Government’s policy on ending GBV and making the country violence free.
Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator BEATRICE MUTHALI said GBV remains a serious violation of human rights worldwide and that the statistics remain alarmingly high.
And, Non-Governmental Gender Organizations Coordination Council -NGOCC- Chairperson BEAUTY KATEBE commended the commitment of President HICHILEMA in addressing GBV by holding meetings with the women’s machinery every quarter so that the women’s agenda is advanced.
Speaking at the same event, Gender Division Permanent Secretaries MAINGA KABIKA said that the launch of the 16 days of activism against gender based violence is a call to deepen the country’s commitment to gender equality.
