“No need for people to besiege the court”
By Sharon Siame
Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA says there is no need for people to besiege the court premises tomorrow as live proceedings of the Presidential eligibility case will be televised on radio and television.
Mr. KAWANA has appealed to citizens to remain calm and follow proceedings from the comfort of their homes or workplaces as opposed to crowding the court premises tomorrow.
He has also advised the public to desist from commenting on matters which are before the courts as doing so is prohibited by the law.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Mr. KAWANA condemned the alleged threats against court officials and judges on the Patriotic Front -PF- page ahead of the Presidential eligibility judgment tomorrow.
And the Information Permanent Secretary said there are NO political prisoners in the country.
Mr. KAWANA said all individuals in custody are there for legal reasons and not due to their political affiliation.
He said assertions that individuals are being arrested and imprisoned for holding divergent political views are unfounded.
Mr. KAWANA said being involved in politics, whether in the ruling or opposition parties, does not exempt individuals from following the law.
