Kasune asks SADC to harmonize laws on child marriage

Justice Minister PRINCESS KASUNE has urged Southern African Development Community -SADC- member states to harmonise their laws on child marriage.
The Minister made the remarks in Livingstone during a panel discussion on the SADC Model Law for Eradicating Child Marriage and Protecting Children Already in Marriage.
The event was held on the sidelines of the 56th Plenary Assembly Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum.
At the same event, SADC Parliamentary Forum Secretary General BOEMO SEKGOMA emphasized the need for member states to build societies that do not tolerate child marriage.
Ms. SEKGOMA has also urged continuous awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagement to achieve meaningful results.
And Youth representative EDNA BANDA, who was a victim of child marriage, shared her experience, describing the severe impact child marriage has on children.
And Chief Chamuka of Chisamba shared the measures his chiefdom has taken to address child marriage.
