Water bodies encroachment limits NWWSSCO’s capacity to supply water-Nzovu

Water Development Minister Collins Nzovu says the North-Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company is struggling to supply water due to encroachment on natural water bodies in the region.
Mr. Nzovu is concerned about the high levels of encroachment on water bodies, which is affecting the quality of water supplied in the province.
Speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Permanent Secretary Romas Kamanga, Mr. Nzovu called for firm and aggressive measures to address issues of encroachment on water supply bodies.
This was in Solwezi, during the unveiling of the North-Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Board Members.
Meanwhile, North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Grandson Katambi called for the arrest of criminal cartels that have been formed at the North-Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company (NWWSSCO).
Colonel Katambi says these criminal elements have crippled the institution, which is struggling with service delivery due to increased acts of corruption.
Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa has called on the newly appointed board to work towards improving water and sanitation services in the district.
Mr. Kalepa says the district has grown over the past few years, yet there has been little investment by the company in improving water supply.
