“Pray for rain”
By Mary Kachepa
President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the nation to pray for rains and participate in farming for the country to get a good harvest.
President Hichilema says when God answers the prayers, it is important that citizens do their part by working hard in the fields.
President Hichilema also said the country will now plant every month and harvest every month, not just wait for the rainy season.
The President thanked the various Church Mother bodies and the clergy for coming forth to pray for the rains.
President Hichilema was among church leaders and citizens who gathered at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to pray for good rains and a good harvest.
Vice President Mutale Nalumango was among the thousands of people who attended the National Prayers for rains.
Speaking earlier, National Day of Prayer Committee Chairperson Reverend Canon Robert Sihubwa said the prayers are meant to petition God for good rains and a good harvest.
In his homily, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretary General Father Francis Mukosa said drought experiences in the Bible teach about God’s supremacy.
Father Mukosa said the drought is also an opportunity to explore other methods of farming.
