Incarcerated former Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has been ordered to pay the state over 800,000 United States dollars and 20 million kwacha that he earned through fraudulent contracts awarded to his company in 2013.
Lusaka Principal Resident Magistrate Sanford Ngobola delivered the verdict following the application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Magistrate Ngobola ruled that in default of the court order for Mr. Mwamba to surrender the money in question, a warrant of distress shall be issued against his properties deemed to be proceeds of crime.
Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Head of Corporate Communications Timothy Moono says his institution had filed an application seeking a court order for Mr. Mwamba to surrender the money he earned from corrupt deals.
Mr. Moono stated in a statement released to ZNBC News that the ACC had filed the application immediately following Mr. Mwamba’s conviction for corruption in October 2024.
He stated that the ACC felt it was erroneous for Mr. Mwamba to continue to benefit from corrupt deals after his conviction.
