Faith Musonda forfeits more property to the state
By Blessings Chibuye
The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has ordered the forfeiture to the state Faith Musonda’s properties which were suspected proceeds of crime worth over 21 million Kwacha.
ACC Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, says the handover follows investigations into Ms. Musonda’s failure to disclose ownership of the assets, as required in an agreement with the Commission.
Mr. Moono said this was after Ms. Musonda was in 2021 found in possession of 65 million kwacha, over 57,000 dollars, and a house in New Kasama worth over 6 million kwacha, suspected to be proceeds of crime, which were subsequently forfeited to the State.
He told ZNBC News in a statement that among the new properties forfeited include over 100,000 dollars paid towards the purchase of a house in Kingsland City and a farm in Chisamba worth about 6 million kwacha.
Mr. Moono said the Commission sought a Non-Conviction-Based Forfeiture Order under the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act, and the Court ruled that there was no evidence proving the properties were legally acquired.
He added that the ACC remains committed to tracing, recovering, and forfeiting illicitly acquired assets to the State for the benefit of the Zambian people.
