Zambia to host Lake Tanganyika Conference
By Mwewa Musonda
Zambia is set to host the 13th Ordinary Meeting of the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) Conference of Ministers in October 2025.
This was resolved during the recently held LTA Conference of Ministers during the 12th Ordinary Meeting held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The conference also appreciated the outgoing Chairperson, Mike Mposha, for his diligent service.
The conference noted progress made by member states in implementing the annual fish ban on Lake Tanganyika, aimed at maintaining sustainable fisheries management.
During the conference, Mr. Mposha handed over the chairmanship to DRC Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Jean Tshimanga.
The conference has since directed the LTA Secretariat to inform the Tanzanian government to initiate the process of identifying a suitable candidate for the Executive Director position, whose contract expires in March 2026.
This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Communication Unit.
