Muchima threatens to cancel ambulance contract
By Martha Kanene
Health Minister Elijah Muchima has threatened to cancel the contract for the supply of 66 ambulances if the delivery date is not clear.
Dr. Muchima has tasked the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) to follow up with the supplier by tomorrow.
The Minister explained that the delay in delivering the ambulances is severely impacting the delivery of health services.
Dr. Muchima says some hospitals are now being forced to borrow ambulances from other health facilities to transport critically ill patients.
The Minister made these remarks today in Lusaka during a high-level meeting with senior medical officials and medical groups.
The meeting was meant to address challenges hospitals are facing and to feed into strategies for improving healthcare delivery in 2025.
Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Lishimpi provided updates on the government’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure.
