Meanwhile, Ugandan Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo said the integration of ADR will reduce the cost of trials.
Mr. Owiny-Dollo said that by introducing ADR, Zambia can cement its position as the leader in the timely delivery of justice.
Lusaka High Court Judge in Charge Charles Zulu said the call for the implementation of ADR is a necessity.
And Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri has directed prosecutors to explore alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in deserving cases.
Mr. Phiri says the move aims to facilitate the swift disposal of criminal cases.
He has called for innovative approaches, citing the alarming number of over 26,000 inmates housed in 87 correctional facilities countrywide.
Mr. Phiri made these remarks during the ceremonial opening of the High Court criminal sessions for Northern Province in Kasama District.
Meanwhile, Kasama High Court Judge in Charge Matthew Zulu stressed the importance of a dynamic approach to addressing delays in the delivery of justice.
