President Hakainde Hichilema says Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) will be integrated into the country’s justice system.
President Hichilema has tasked Chief Justice Mumba Malila to ensure that ADR is fully integrated.
The President acknowledged that ADR is one of the means to expeditiously dispose of court cases.
President Hichilema made these remarks at State House in Lusaka today when Uganda Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo called on him.
President Hichilema observed that ADR is efficient as some cases take many years to be disposed of.
He also cited the impasse with investors and Zambia’s government on Konkola Copper Mine and other mines, where issues were resolved through ADR.
Meanwhile, Uganda Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo observed that ADR is instrumental in unlocking the economy as it leads to the quick disposal of cases regarding disputes with investors.
Justice Owiny-Dollo said over 90 percent of cases in the United States of America are resolved through ADR.
At the same meeting, Chief Justice Mumba Malila said ADR enhances harmony in society as it promotes a win-win situation among parties to disputes.
