Police detain Mumbi Phiri

Police have detained Patriotic Front -PF- faction member MUMBI PHIRI in connection with a case of aggravated robbery.
Police Spokesperson RAE HAMOONGA says Mrs. PHIRI was arrested following a report made to Kawambwa Police Station on December 28 by BOLDWIN CHILAMBIKWA, 28, of Katungulu Village, Chief Mushota, in Kawambwa District.
Mr. HAMOONGA says Mr. CHILAMBIKWA reported that his Infinix cellphone, valued at 3,800 Kwacha, and cash amounting to 20,000 Kwacha were stolen by a male suspect identified as PETER, who was allegedly in the company of Mrs. PHIRI.
He says the incident occurred around 18:00 hours that evening at Chisheta Primary School in Kawambwa District.
Mr. HAMOONGA says the complainant had accompanied the Minister of Green Economy and Environment, MIKE MPOSHA, and other UPND members as they checked on their party members.
He says a group from the Tonse Alliance, allegedly led by Mrs. PHIRI, confronted them and accused them of collecting voter cards from members of the public in collaboration with the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- team.
Mr. HAMOONGA says an altercation ensued in the process , during which PETER used a Taser gun on the complainant, causing him to fall and become incapacitated.
He says the suspect allegedly grabbed the cellphone and cash, which were reportedly given to the complainant by Mr. MPOSHA for fuel.
Mr. HAMOONGA says a docket of aggravated robbery was opened, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
