By Mwamba Makonde
Youth, Sport and Arts Minister, Elvis Nkandu, has asked China to help with the construction of mini-stadia in Livingstone and all 156 constituencies to develop grassroots sports.
Nkandu also called for capacity-building initiatives, including workshops and technical training, to strengthen expertise in the sports sector.
The Minister said this when he met Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Han Jing, to explore areas of collaboration in youth empowerment, sports infrastructure, and arts development.
During the meeting, Nkandu outlined Zambia’s plans to enhance the sports and arts sectors, emphasizing the need for China’s support in rehabilitating major sports facilities such as Levy Mwanawasa and Heroes stadia.
Mr. Han said China is committed to fostering development through strategic partnerships and pledged to work closely with the Ministry to achieve the outlined goals.
The ambassador, who was making his first official engagement in Zambia, invited the Ministry to participate in an upcoming TAZARA railway exhibition in Lusaka.
