Govt pays K37m salary arrears for TAZARA workers
By Masauso Mkwayaya
The government has paid 37.8 million Kwacha in salary arrears to TAZARA workers.
Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali says the money covers arrears for three of the five months owed, while the remaining balance will be paid as soon as funds are available.
Mr. Tayali says he appreciates the patience that the workers have demonstrated in allowing his office to source part of their salary arrears without downing tools.
The Minister says what the workers have been going through is not something to ignore because they, like any other employees, deserve to get what they have worked for as they have families to look after.
This is according to a statement to ZNBC News issued by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Public Relations Unit.
