Govt Pays K5.4bn in relief funds to citizens

The government has paid 5.4 billion Kwacha to drought emergency, regular social cash transfer, and price shock response beneficiaries from June 2024 to date.
Two million two hundred and sixty-three thousand one hundred and one households have benefited from the three programs.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Social Welfare Director, Nelson Nyangu, says 2.4 billion Kwacha has been paid to drought emergency cash transfer beneficiaries from June 2024 to December 2024.
Mr. Nyangu says the money has been paid to 726,000 households in the eighty-four districts that were affected by the drought.
He told ZNBC News that 500 million Kwacha has been paid as a price shock response to 226,000 households in the 32 districts not listed as drought-affected.
Mr. Nyangu said over 1.9 billion Kwacha has been paid to 1,311, 101 households as regular social cash transfer beneficiaries.
