Seven Philippine nationals, aged between 40 and 55, have been apprehended by the Zambia Police Service for alleged indecent assault on females in Solwezi.
Thirteen Zambian females, whose ages are yet to be verified, are also in police custody for their protection and as part of ongoing investigations.
Police Spokesperson REA HAMOONGA said the arrests were made after police received tips from concerned citizens that the Philippine nationals, employed at Kansanshi Mines, were luring young girls to lodges in Solwezi for alleged prostitution.
Mr. HAMOONGA stated that a search at Lukumo Lodge revealed the suspects in compromising situations with the females.
He has since assured the public that they will thoroughly investigate the matter and hold all individuals implicated accountable under the law.
Mr. HAMOONGA urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of exploitation, abuse, or other criminal activities to their nearest police station.
