Police Gun down criminals in Lusaka
Police have shot dead two suspected criminals armed with a pistol who stole a vehicle in Lusaka.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, says the four criminals had earlier stolen a vehicle from an online taxi driver at Chingwere Cemetery.
Mr. Hamoonga explained that the suspects include a woman who had booked the vehicle from Emmanuel Kalinda, 35.
He told ZNBC News that Mr. Kalinda, however, notified the police, who later recovered the vehicle and a pistol after an exchange of gunfire in George Compound.
Meanwhile, a man has brutally killed his former wife in Chienge district, Luapula province, before burying her body in a shallow grave in her crop field.
The murder, which is believed to have happened between January 12, 2025, and yesterday, sparked riots, during which villagers destroyed Mununga Police Post.
Mr. Hamoonga has confirmed both the murder and the riots, which took place today around 05 hours.
The suspect, Derrick Mwale, who was apprehended by police, was also severely beaten by the instant justice mob, which attacked the police post where he had been detained.
He explained that the deceased, Grace Mumba, aged 44, of Kapampale village, had earlier gone missing on January 12, 2025, and the matter was reported to the police.
And in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound, three of the 13 suspects who were helped to escape from custody by a police officer have been apprehended.
The three were part of the group of suspects who were detained at Leonard Cheelo Police Post when Detective-Inspector Titus Phiri illegally facilitated their escape on December 31, 2024.
Mr. Hamoonga said the three suspects were re-apprehended with the support of some members of the general public.
