Three people have been convicted for smuggling 3,621 kilograms of abalone, a highly prized seafood.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, says the three were convicted by the Lusaka Economics and Financial Crimes Court.
Mr. Nzala says the court further convicted Ronata Logistics Limited and Sawa Trading and General Dealers-Simasiku Mundia on counts of smuggling.
This defrauded the government of 72,420 United States Dollars in taxes and duty.
He says the convicts have since paid the Authority the evaded taxes and duties in a sum of 2,257,574 Kwacha and the cost of prosecution amounting to 100,000 Kwacha.
He says the convicts also pledged to register on the Smart-Invoice platform with the Authority.
