Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, MIGHTY MUMBA, says the long-standing cooperation between Zambia and Japan has positively impacted rice production and small-scale irrigation schemes in Luapula.
Mr. MUMBA has praised the Japan International Cooperation Agency -JICA- for its ongoing support in the province, especially in the agriculture sector.
He says JICA’s role in improving small irrigation systems across various districts in the province have enabled the cultivation of legumes, vegetables, and other crops that enhance local nutrition.
Mr. MUMBA HAS affirmed the Government’s commitment to deepening Zambia’s ties with Japan.
He was speaking during a meeting with JICA delegation led by Vice President Mr. YAMAGUCHI HIROYUKI.
Meanwhile, Mr. HIROYUKI said the agency’s projects, including the Market-Oriented Rice Development Project -MoreDep- and community-based small irrigation schemes are designed to boost rice production and farmers’ incomes.
Mr. HIROYUKI praised the active participation of local agricultural extension officers and underscored the importance of continued support for these initiatives.
