Kawambwa Tea earns $1M from Exports

Kawambwa Tea, a 100-percent Government-owned company, earned about ONE-million U.S. dollars from exports last year.
Kawambwa Tea Chief Financial Officer TACHILA ZULU says the exports mainly comprise 80 percent of bulk tea, which is used in sectors such as breweries.
Speaking when he met Special Assistant to President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for Political Affairs, LEVY NGOMA this morning, in Kawambwa, Mr. ZULU said about 20 percent of the production is made up of actual tea.
He said the company is also contributing to job creation through the employment of over 500 people.
And Mr. NGOMA said the rebirth of Kawambwa Tea is a remarkable development story.
He said Kawambwa Tea is evidence that Government-owned companies, if supported, can thrive.
Mr. NGOMA said the employment of over 500 people is a significant achievement.
