Petauke to shift from ground to surface water
By Katwishi Bwalya
Government says it will migrate Petauke District in Eastern Province from the use of ground water to surface water.
This follows the contamination of underground water with Calcium, making the access to clean water a challenge.
Water Development and Sanitation Minister COLLINS NZOVU says government will sanction the feasibility study to ensure a quick migration to the use of surface water.
Mr. NZOVU says a site has already been identified and urged the local Authority to protect the area.
He described the water situation in Petauke as a crisis.
The Minister was speaking when he met officials from the Eastern Water and Sanitation Company in Petauke.
And Eastern Water and Sanitation Company Managing Director AARON MULINDA said measures have been taken to ensure people have access to water.
Mr. MULINDA said migrating to surface water is the only solution.
