Japan invites President HICHILEMA for official visit

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is expected to undertake a State Visit to Japan from February 3rd to 7th this year, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of that country, SHIGERU ISHIBA.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE says the visit represents a significant milestone in strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Zambia and Japan, built on shared values and mutual aspirations.
In a statement, Mr. HAIMBE said President HICHILEMA will during his visit, hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister ISHIBA, focusing on key areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment promotion.
He said a key highlight will be the signing of Memoranda of Understanding in strategic sectors to enhance collaboration.
Mr. HAIMBE said the President will also hold bilateral engagements with high-ranking officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Fujita Corporation, the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security, and Toyota Corporation.
He said discussions will centre on investments in road infrastructure, renewable energy, and other development projects.
The Minister adds that the President’s programme includes site visits in Nagoya and Kyoto to leading manufacturing companies and a waste treatment facility specialising in waste-to-energy solutions.
Mr. HAIMBE said President HICHILEMA will also deliver a keynote address at the Zambia-Japan Business Forum scheduled to be held in Tokyo on February 6, 2025.
He said the visit provides an invaluable platform to deepen bilateral cooperation and explore new opportunities in trade, renewable energy, healthcare, and education.
The Foreign Affairs Minister said Japan’s global leadership in innovation and technology offers immense potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
President HICHILEMA will return to Zambia on February 8th, this year.
