No Structural Damage on Makeni Bridge
By Chansa Kunda
Government has refuted social media reports that a crack has developed on one of the Crash -Barriers on the Makeni Flyover Bridge in Lusaka.
Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Administration, MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU says the gap seen is NOT a crack but a standard design feature.
Mr. HAAMAUNDU says the feature which is placed on specific points of the Bridge is designed to leave space for expansion arising from temperature changes.
The Permanent Secretary was speaking after leading a team of engineers, and design consultant who inspected the Bridge.
Mr. HAAMAUNDU also said that the observed brown-lines from the pictures making rounds on social media are water marks that come through the expansion joint of the Bridge.
Mr. HAAMAUNDU has since assured the general public that the bridge is safe and strong.
The Makeni Flyover Bridge was constructed in 2020 under the Lusaka Decongestion Project that was implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Public Relations Officer CHILA NAMAIKO.
