ECZ Advises Reporting Vote Buying Allegations to ACC
By Masauso Mkwayaya-
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has advised stakeholders to report alleged vote buying to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro says members of the public should engage constructively in the electoral process and refrain from making statements that may mislead the public or undermine confidence in the country’s electoral process.
The guidance follows allegations by Patriotic Front (PF) faction Information and Publicity Committee Chairperson Emmanuel Mwamba that some political stakeholders engaged in vote buying during the recent by-elections.
Mr. Kasaro has also dispelled allegations by Mr. Mwamba that the ECZ sponsored youth groups and media in recent by-elections.
He says the convening of youth meetings does not constitute sponsorship but rather serves as a platform for engagement and dialogue to enhance compliance with the electoral code of conduct.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Mr. Kasaro.
