Ministry Vaccinates 1.9 Million Cattle Against Foot and Mouth Disease
By Mark Ziligone
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has vaccinated 1.9 million out of the targeted 2 million cattle against foot and mouth disease in high-risk districts across the country.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister, Peter Kapala, has also revealed that from January to date, over 1.4 million out of a target of 1.5 million animals have been vaccinated against other diseases.
Speaking during a media briefing, Mr. Kapala said this marks significant progress made in vaccination campaigns aimed at combating foot and mouth disease in the country.
He also revealed that the country has not experienced any cases of major animal diseases.
Mr. Kapala, however, expressed concern over the increase in tick-borne diseases, particularly in Eastern and Southern Provinces, due to heavy rainfall which has boosted tick populations.
