The country has recorded 20 cases of Mpox since the first case was reported in Chitambo District, Central Province, on October 8, 2024.
Health Minister Elijah Muchima says the ongoing spread of the virus has now reached multiple provinces across the country.
In a ministerial statement to the National Assembly, Dr. Muchima explained that the outbreak began with a confirmed case in Chitambo, and since then, the virus has spread to Lusaka and the Copperbelt provinces.
As of February 18, 2025, 20 confirmed Mpox cases have been recorded across three provinces, with Lusaka reporting 14 cases, the Copperbelt reporting 5 cases, and Central Province reporting 1 case.
Dr. Muchima adds that Lusaka has reported the highest number of cases, with areas such as Bauleni Compound, Kanyama, and Garden Compound being among the hardest-hit areas.
