HH Calls for Accelerated Economic Transformation in Africa
President Hakainde Hichilema has called on leaders in Africa to accelerate the continent’s economic transformation.
President Hichilema says peace, security, and stability are indispensable prerequisites for sustainable economic growth.
He has called for a balanced focus on politics, business, and economics.
President Hichilema also participated in the Presidential Breakfast Meeting on the establishment of the African Credit Rating Agency on the sidelines of the AU Summit, where he called for the swift operationalization of an African-owned credit rating institution.
Further, in a meeting with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) President and Board Chairman, Professor Benedict Okey Oramah, alongside Africa’s wealthiest entrepreneur, Aliko Dangote, President Hichilema expressed concern over Africa’s low levels of intra-continental trade.
He lamented that African goods and services often reach African markets through third parties, making transactions unnecessarily complex and costly.
Among the high-level executives who engaged with the President was Ms. Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS and United Nations Under-Secretary-General.
Their discussions centered on the potential disruptions resulting from the suspension of USAID funding across Africa, particularly in Zambia.
