Judiciary and Ireland Launch First-Ever Mobile Court in Zambia
By Alice Lubasi
The Judiciary, in collaboration with the Government of Ireland, has launched the first-ever Mobile Court aimed at speeding up the justice system.
Speaking at the launch, Lusaka High Court Judge in Charge Charles Zulu says the mobile court will play a pivotal role in decongesting correctional facilities.
Mr. Zulu said the project was conceived by the Irish Rule of Law with the support of the Irish Embassy.
Meanwhile, Irish Ambassador to Zambia Bronagh Carr said the application will be rolled out to other provinces.
Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri said the launch of the Mobile Court will address the longstanding issue of pre-trial detention.
Zambia Correctional Service Deputy Commissioner General Kuyomba Bwalya said the service has been grappling with the transportation of inmates from one province to another.
