TAYALI: Zambian truckers face ongoing risks in DRC
By Rosemary Kamanga
Transport and Logistics Minister, FRANK TAYALI, has expressed concern over the plight of Zambian truck drivers, particularly when entering the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.
Mr. TAYALI says despite previous engagements with DRC officials, the situation remains unresolved.
He says Zambia’s jurisdiction ends at its borders, and therefore, the government will escalate the matter to the President, requesting him to take it up with his counterparts at the Southern African Development Community -SADC level.
Mr. TAYALI was speaking following the special meeting of Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and Executive Directors in Lusaka today on the current security and safety challenges faced by Truck drivers operating in the DRC.
He expressed hope that by escalating the matter to the SADC level, a tangible solution can be found, and the situation can be resolved.
