Govt Concerned with Raising Number of Early Marriages

ZANIS -Government is concerned with raising number of early marriages in the country that continue to hinder women and girls’ full participation in national development.

Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA has disclosed that despite various strides to enhance equality for women and girls, some men are still taking advantage of the women.

Speaking during International Women’s Day celebrations held in Choma, Mr. MWEETWA warned that government will ensure that perpetrators of various forms of violence against women and girls that include sexual abuse and child marriage face the full wrath of law.

Mr. MWEETWA who is also Minister of Information and Media called on the church to support various developmental initiatives that government is implementing.
