By Hector Simfukwe
President Hakainde Hichilema says he wants the Ministries of Education and Health to consistently deliver the best services in the country.
President Hichilema emphasized that these two sectors are key to national development.
He made these remarks while handing over part of the 595 health rooms that have been constructed across the country, during a ceremony held at Malama Primary School in Kasama.
President Hichilema expressed his happiness that teachers have been trained to serve as the first line of defense whenever a child falls sick at school.
He praised the partnership involving the Ministries of Health, Education, and Healthy Learners for supporting the concept of building health rooms in schools.
Speaking at the same event, Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima said the Healthy Learners program aligns with the government’s initiative to increase school enrollment.
Mr. Syakalima noted that investment in health will boost learners’ attendance in school.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Elijah Muchima stated that the health room at Malama Primary is one of the 599 being built across the country.
Dr. Muchima added that the government aims to increase access points where citizens can receive health services.
Speaking at the same event, Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali urged the people of Kasama to support President Hichilema.
Earlier, Healthy Learners Chief Executive Officer Lonnie Hackett thanked President Hichilema for his dedication to promoting education in Zambia.
He explained that the Healthy Learners program will significantly reduce absenteeism, as pupils can now receive treatment at their learning facilities.
Mr. Hackett also mentioned that more health rooms will be constructed in schools across the country.
