By Masauso Mkwayaya
The Police Public Complaints Commission -PPCC- has recorded a 23-percent decline in complaints against police actions in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the previous quarter.
Commission Chairperson ZUNGA SIAKALIMA says 45 complaints were received from seven provinces between October and December 2024, down from 68 cases recorded in the third quarter.
Mr. SIAKALIMA says Lusaka Province accounted for the highest number of complaints, with 37 cases, while Western, Northern, Luapula, and Eastern provinces recorded none.
He told ZNBC News that 14 cases in Lusaka were related to police inaction , followed by 6 cases of discreditable conduct and six abuse of authority cases.
He says during this period, the commission held two public hearings-one in Lusaka and another in Southern Province-where 36 complaints were reviewed.
Lusaka had 27 cases considered, while Southern Province had nine.
Mr. SIAKALIMA has urged citizens to continue reporting unethical police behaviour.
