“It’s Premature to Demonstrate Against Intended Constitutional Amendments”
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Government says it will be premature for any member of the public to demonstrate against an intended constitutional amendment whose content they have not seen.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU says government is aware of some individuals who have notified the police on their intention to demonstrate against the intended constitutional amendment.
Mr. MWIIMBU however says while the government respects the right of every Zambian, it is premature for anyone to demonstrate against a constitutional amendment document they have not seen.
In a statement to ZNBC News , Mr. MWIIMBU advised members of the public and other interested individuals to wait for the document to be published in the Government Gazette,
in order for them to make meaningful and realistic reactions.
Mr MWIIMBU says premature demonstrations may lead to people unknowingly opposing an amendment that is in the interest of the nation.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News in LUSAKA by Principal Public Relations Officer MWALA KALALUKA.
