
$9.2m Climate Resilience Project Launched for Zambezi Basin Communities
Government has launched a 9.2 million United States Dollars project aimed at strengthening the resilience of Zambezi basin communities to climatic and economic shocks in Northwestern and Southern Provinces.
Agriculture Permanent Secretary in Charge for Administration YVONNE MPUNDU says the Programme for Intergrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change is a five year project funded by the African Development Bank.
Ms. MPUNDU says the Programme will strengthen communities to climatic and economic shocks through promoting inclusive, transformative investments, job-creation and ecosystem-based solutions.
The Permanent Secretary was speaking during the launch of the programme in Kazungula district in Southern Province.
And Project Coordinator SIMUNJI SIMUNJI said the selected vulnerable communities along the Zambezi basin will benefit from the project by adopting climate smart agricultural and sustainable forestry management practices.
Kazungula District Commissioner ELIAS SIAMIBILA expressed happiness for selecting his district to be under the PIDACC among the six districts in Southern Province.
