
Chongwe Couple drowns in Ngwerere River

A couple of sewerage compound in Chongwe District has drowned after it was swept away by the current in Ngwerere River two days ago.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU- National Coordinator NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU says the body of the woman, MIRRIAM ZULU who was 8- months pregnant is yet to be found.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU says the body of the husband WILLIAM ZULU has been retrieved and is scheduled for burial tomorrow.
He told ZNBC News that DMMU is supporting the bereaved families and is coordinating with the Fire Brigade and Police to assist in the recovery of the body of Mrs ZULU.
Mr CHIPAKUPAKU -DMMU- has so provided food items to the funeral house in Meanwood Mutumbi area.
Meanwhile Mr CHIPAKUPAKU said there are 65 households in crisis in the Matero camp, at Chitukuko Skills Training Center while 94 households at Chaisa Skills Training Center Camp, in Mandevu.
He further said there are 36 households in crisis at John Laing Primary School in Kanyama.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU said de-flooding operations are currently underway in various flooded areas.
And Mr CHIPAKUPAKU said DMMU is also preparing to assess the damage done by floods in Zambezi West and Chavuma Districts in North Western Province.
