
Zambia Leads Regional Effort for High-Quality Seeds
(NAIS) Zambia has been chosen to lead a regional initiative that is aimed at strengthening seed certification through digital training.
Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary for Technical Services JOHN MULONGOTI announced this at the inception of the Seed Control and Certification Institute –SCCI- digital training project meeting.
Speaking during the meeting at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Mr. MULONGOTI said with support from Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa –AGRA-, the project seeks to enhance agricultural productivity by ensuring farmers access high-quality seeds of improved varieties.
The Permanent Secretary said the availability of quality seeds is critical in enhancing food security at national and regional levels, especially in the wake of climate change.
And AGRA Country Manager MAZIKO PHIRI said the foundation of agriculture begins with high-quality seed that is essential for boosting yields, improving crop resilience, and ensuring food security.
Dr. PHIRI called for continued collaboration between the AGRA and SCCI to train seed inspectors, not only in Zambia but across the 15 countries to enhance-their capacity in the sector.
